How laser hair reduction works
The laser emits light that is absorbed by the pigment in the hair. This light becomes heat at the root, disabling the follicle's ability to grow new hair. A cooling system protects the skin surface during treatment.
Why you need several sessions
At any time, only part of your hair is actively growing. The laser works best on those hairs, so sessions are spaced about 4–6 weeks apart to catch the next set. Most people need around 6–8 sessions, with the number varying by area, hair thickness and hormones.
Preparing for your session
- Stop waxing, threading or plucking about 4 weeks before — shaving is fine.
- Shave the area a day before your session.
- Avoid tanning and strong sun exposure for 2 weeks before.
- Tell the doctor about any medicines, especially those that make you sun-sensitive.
